About

A collaboration of 35 different organizations, Aman Ittehad’s representatives are a combination of NGOs, trade unions, the media, youth organizations, minority groups and business organizations from Pakistan.  A meeting was held in Murree from October 9, 2009 till October 11, 2009 in order to deliberate over the prevalent domestic situation, and discuss pathways to peace.  During this meeting, the attendees unanimously decided to name themselves Aman Ittehad.  What proceeded was an agreement on two fundamentals – indivisibility of peace for all citizens, irrespective of gender, class, nationality, religion, occupation, age, et cetera; and, to work together to redefine the state’s relationship with citizens by helping to create a paradigm shift in its priorities.   The shift being from a security state, inclined more towards a state responsive to the needs of all its citizens – especially the socially, politically, and systemically excluded – rejecting all forms of religious extremism and violence.

Aman Ittehad has decided to work on spreading peace by promoting connectedness between citizens and citizen organizations; engaging rural and urban youth, students, and workers; organizing public dialogue with political parties and public representatives; engaging with parliamentarians and political parties to influence constitutional amendments and policies; engaging with state institutions, the government, and the military; and, engaging with people.  The organization aims to restore trust through people’s assemblies, exchanges, demonstrations, marches, cultural events, music, art and writers’ forums.

Aman Ittehad’s extensive initiatives will also include undertaking research; developing profiles of violence-affected areas, monitoring activities of religious extremist groups; correcting distortions in history; strengthening media relations to project the voices of citizens and apply a code of ethics.  Peace efforts will also be targeted towards promoting corporate social responsibility with businesses; developing and disseminating special messages, including short videos in different languages, et cetera for filling the information gap on rights; demystifying the constitution and laws; and, promoting regional citizen to citizen exchanges.
